Midli Project Update (Post COVID)

Happy New Year everyone!

We sincerely hope you are all doing well, and that you’re staying safe! This has been 2 incredibly difficult years for everyone.

It’s been a while since we’ve posted here, and we want to apologize for that. The truth is that since our last update we’ve been struggling a lot, both personally and professionally, something we’re sure many of you can relate to as a result of this pandemic. Since COVID hit, our main source of income (educational games, workshops and conventions) has taken a massive hit, which we are still trying to recover from. Both of us do this as our full time job, so this has obviously led to this being an extra stressful time for us. We’ve mentioned in the past that the Kickstarter budget for Midli ran out long ago, so any work done on it is now out of pocket or from surplus from other projects. As we’ve struggled just to stay afloat, we’re sure you can understand that we have not been able to get much work done on Midli.

It’s honestly taken a huge mental and emotional toll on us, as we’ve poured everything into DinoByte for so many years, and it has felt like we’ve been watching it slowly fall apart. Trying to find ways to keep the company afloat, as well as dealing with the stress, hopelessness and dread this pandemic has brought has been incredibly draining, and we’ve both sort of petered out. This is part of why it’s been so hard to make any sort of update, even though we know people have been requesting it. We are truly and deeply sorry. It’s honestly been weighing on us quite heavily. Midli has meant so much to us, both creatively and personally. Honestly, our attachment to the game and its success has possibly even been a hindrance for us to cope with seeing how the project has taken a turn that we are less than happy with. And in this past year, having lost family, a lot of the deeper meaning and inspirations behind Midli have also hit extra close to home, which has made it even harder to think about. For our own self preservation and mental health, we’ve simply been unable to address the elephant in the room and come to you with an update, especially when we don’t have much to share.

But there is light at the end of the tunnel! Midli isn’t going away, it has not been cancelled, and we’re still moving forward. We’ve put so much of ourselves, our time, money, hearts and love into this project. We are trying our best to keep DinoByte alive, so that we can pick up where we left off with Midli and hopefully have some good news to bring you in the not so distant future. We work on it when we can, mostly in our spare time, but I hope it’s understandable that now more than ever, it’s really important to take good care of your mental health and not push harder than you are able to. Monetizing a passion or hobby can be super rewarding, but it can also lead to a lot of pressure and not knowing where work starts and stops, something we have been really mindful of lately.

We really hope you can all hang around for a bit longer, and we are hopeful that things are picking up again now and that soon we will have something more to update with. We have seen some speculation regarding the project, but as we’ve said previously, we will update you when there is something to update with, and even though we truly hope and believe it won’t happen, we would also update you if for some reason the project gets cancelled.

If you have any questions or comments about any of this, please leave it on this post so that others who might be wondering the same thing can see our responses all in one place.

Here’s to 2022 being a brighter and better year!
